29-year old Lee wanted to use his illustration degree to work in art therapy and started a basic social care course towards this. The job centre told him that he could not be spending enough time looking for work if he was doing a college course. He was sanctioned, and had to leave his course half way through. Having now moved back to his home town, he has been left with temporary, insecure and seasonal work, instead of the social care job he had hoped for. Whilst he appealed against his sanction and won, he says, “I could’ve had a career if I’d been able to continue the course.”
