He works part-time as a waiter in a hotel, is a Special Olympics gold medal winner and is making plans to marry his girlfriend. He receives Disability Living Allowance to cover impairment-related costs and this enables him to live in his own flat, but he fears he will lose this in the changeover to Personal Independence Payment. Losing this income means he will need to work full-time to make up the shortfall, which is not possible with his impairment, so his independence is on the line.
